Ayurveda, meaning the science of life, is an ancient Indian science focused on the inner balance of the body and mind. Its roots can be dated to the Vedic culture, and it has since been passed down through generation after generation.

Drink Warm Water and Stay Hydrated

Regularly drinking warm water flushes out toxins from the body and helps with weight loss. It also prevents urinary tract infections and improves digestion.

Practice Yoga

Another ancient Indian art that revolves around improving the overall health of a person through asanas, pranayama, and meditation. It restores the balance of all five elements of the body and promotes self-healing. It is recommended to practice yoga for at least 30 minutes daily.

Spice it up

Probably the most convenient way to boost immunity is to add a variety of spices and natural herbs to our diet. Spices like haldi (turmeric), jeera (cumin), dhania (coriander), and garlic have antibacterial and medicinal properties that help our body to fight infections. However, it must be said that an excess of spices could do more harm than good, so use in moderation.

Ayurvedic Foods to Boost Immunity

Chyawanprash

This mysterious Indian daily food supplement is made of natural elements. It is recommended to consume one tablespoon of this magic blend once a day to increase immunity.

Herbal Tea

Another easy yet effective method is to drink a variety of herbal teas. There are various blends, each with separate benefits to the body. The most common one, called Kadha, is made of ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, and holy basil. Many variants are possible by using star anise, cloves, cardamon, and lemons. Jaggery or honey should be used to keep sugar consumption in check.

Golden Milk

Milk and turmeric is a classic warm drink in India, known to be rich in antioxidants and helps to regulate blood pressure and blood sugar level. Some saffron could be added for a richer taste.

Ayurvedic Habits to be Practiced Daily

Pratimarsha Nasya

This is a procedure of oiling the nasal passage using sesame oil or coconut oil. It could be done by dipping your little finger in the oil and inserting it in one nostril. Then hold the other nostril closed and breathe in sharply, making your body jerk. When the oil reaches the mouth, spit it out. Repeat with the other nostril. It reduces the chances of catching an infection and helps with respiratory disorders.

Oil Pulling Therapy

This is as simple as gargling with sesame oil or coconut oil. Doing so helps fight infections and should be performed twice daily.

Recommendations to Relieve Dry Cough/Sore Throat

Steaming

Inhaling steam with pudina (mint) is an excellent way to soothe the throat. If leaves are not available, you can use essential oils. This can also be done using ajwain (caraway seeds). It is recommended once per day for the duration of the symptoms.

Cloves with Honey

This is similar to consuming herbal tea. These ingredients are considered to be soothing for the throat. Ginger could also be added for additional relief. Reducing coughing also helps in minimizing the spread of germs.
